250 CSOs release declaration in the eve of Doha Financing for Development Conference (November 2008)

The members of more than 250 civil society organizations and networks from around the world gather from 25-28 November to debate the multiple crises (energy, food, climate, and finance) currently affecting the planet urge goverments to “take the side of women and men workers, farmers, youth and children” and effect changes that put “effective development, poverty eradication, human rights, gender equality, decent work, and environmental sustainability at the fore.”

New "Washington Consensus" won't fix global crisis, more than 630 organizations say (October 2008)

The day before the United Nations (UN) meets to discuss its new high-level taskforce on the global financial crisis, chaired by Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, and two weeks before the US hosts members of the Group of 20 to address the same issue, a coalition
of 630 organizations from 104 countries have issued a statement demanding a truly global response to the global crisis and laying out a set of principles for doing so.

Global Poverty and the Global Common Good in U.S. 2008 Elections (October 2008)

As part of its series Elections 2008: Voting the Common Good, Center of Concern has released a new paper, Global Poverty and the Global Common Good.

In 2000 governments from across the world gathered together to sign the Millennium Declaration that contains a commitment to reduce poverty in the world by half by 2015.

RBW to speak at Rio Group preparatory seminar on Financing for Development (August 2008)

Center of Concern staff, Aldo Caliari, was invited to speak at a seminar co-organized by the Rio Group and the Economic and Social Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Santiago (Chile). 

The seminar  "EL GRUPO DE RÍO Y LA CONFERENCIA INTERNACIONAL SOBRE LA FINANCIACIÓN PARA EL DESARROLLO",  was held in preparation for the upcoming Doha Financing for Development Review Conference (scheduled for Novembe 29-December 2). It touched upon several key issues of relevance to Latin American governments participating in the conference.
