By Aldo Caliari

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio + 20) was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012. In an article appeared on Center Focus, Center of Concern staff Aldo Caliari provides an assessment of the outcomes.

The original Rio Conference, held in 1992, formally endorsed the concept of sustainable development: “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”  “The limits of the Earth ecosystem may have seemed a compelling factor to consider then, but perhaps never so compelling as it is at the current moment,” the article states.
