In the occasion of the meetings, a number of events on infrastructure finance, Public-Private Partnerships, debt and financial regulation in the Group of 20 agenda feature Center of Concern as organizer, speaker and moderator.

China Leads G20 into Green Finance Reflection: To be continued?

In an innovative and promising development from the Leaders of the Group of 20 (G-20), this year's meeting in Hangzhou, China, on 4-5 September 2016, considered conclusions from a Green Finance Study Group that this year deliberated for the first time. In a new guest article for the International Institute on Sustainable Development, “China Leads G20 into Green Finance Reflection: To be continued?”, CoC team member Aldo Caliari comments on the significance of the Study Group and its conclusions for making international finance consistent with the requirements of sustainable development.

Group of 20 Leaders gathering in Hangzhou: Find out what they decided

Group of 20 Hangzhou Summit: What did they decide?

On September 4-5, 2016, Heads of State of the Group of 20 –the premier forum for international economic cooperation for the largest economies of the world -- held their yearly Summit, this year under the Presidency of China, in the city of Hangzhou (China). Meeting amidst rising concerns about the continuing malaise in the global economy, inequality and growing signs of discontent with globalization, the Summit released and endorsed more than 20 initiatives and Action Plans. Issues discussed included the reform of the international monetary system, financial regulation and green finance, structural reform, infrastructure finance, industrialization and the G20’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.

CoC speaks at International Tax Justice Academy

On September 12th through 16th, 2016, CoC team member Aldo Caliari will attend the International Tax Justice Academy, held in Nairobi (Kenya). This Pan-African initiative aims to bridge an existing knowledge gap on tax justice in Africa and empower CSOs and other related organizations to effectively engage in policy advocacy on taxation as it relates to Africa’s economic development. Caliari will be facilitating and speaking at sessions on tax policy and human rights and on tackling illicit financial flows.

Civil society report assesses sustainable development agenda implementation

Independent monitoring and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its structural obstacles and challenges are key factors for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals. What are currently the main obstacles to achieving the said goals? Are there transnational spillover effects that influence or even undermine the implementation of the goals? Are the current policy approaches an adequate response to the challenges and? What has to be done? Which specific policy changes (at international level) are necessary?

The Reflection Group on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, together with other civil society organizations and networks, has produced the first annual Spotlight Report assessing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the structural obstacles in its realization.
