Can the Doha Review Conference make trade an engine for development? (April 2008)

The Doha Review Conference comes at a very crucial moment in the history of the multilateral trade system. In a guest editorial for the Road to Doha Newsletter, Aldo Caliari argues that, with its endeavor to place all sources of finance in the context of a development vision, the Conference will provide the right starting point for examining trade negotiations through a developmental lens, and that in assessing implementation of the trade chapter, the FFD Review should give central attention to trade-finance linkages.
