The United Nations Financing for Development Conference (FFD) took place March 18-22, 2002, in Monterrey, Mexico,

marking a turning point for the involvement of the UN in shaping the global economic system. Whether this was a turning

point for good or for bad, however, is not clear. For those who expected FFD to provide concrete measures to alleviate

poverty and fulfill the goals from the conferences of the 90s (its ostensible purpose) the text coming out of the conference

fails by all measures. Nonetheless, the document does offer some basis for further advocacy activities.
