"Trade negotiations are not gender blind. Far from being objective or equitable, this blindness guarantees that gender bias against women and girls will continue. There are no women in senior positions or top management at the WTO. Few women are trade negotiators, and when they are, their responsibility is to negotiate their government's policies. They are not free to negotiate for women. Therefore, the need for interaction and participation of NGOs, particularly women and feminist, in the WTO and Regional Trade Groups is increasing if the demands for gender equality and equity, democratic and participatory structures, and women's agenda for just and sustainable development are to be heard."
